5 essential tips to use when stacking rings
The internet is filled with guides and detailed instructions on how to stack rings like a pro!
I wrote this article to give you the essential things you need to keep in mind when you start stacking; the rest you can learn with trial and error.
Start with what you have and build on it
Find yourself into stacking all of a sudden? Consider the rings you own before spending your money on new sets.
In your home, you probably have your own rings, your mother’s rings (I mean the ones she lets you wear out, not her 24k diamond ring), if you have sisters, then you have access to their rings as well (only if you give back what you borrows, otherwise just leave your sisters’ rings alone). With the rings you have at hand, you can start creating mini collections of rings that go together according to your style. I suggest you wear the main ring on either your index finger or ring finger of the right hand and then try to add other complementing stacking rings either on top of it or next to it.
If you are stacking gold, try to stack rings in the same karat, so 14K with 14K to avoid having the rings scratching each other.
Mix and match
Gone are the days when mixing metals was a no-go today. You can embrace mixing metals and colors; just do it with style. You want your hands to look cohesive and elegant.
Gold and rose gold look stunning together; rose gold and silver also go together, so stacking 3 stacking rings of these colors together is sure to give you a solid look.
Less is more
If you are a minimalist, I recommend the one-in-all or all-in-one approach with the triangle method of stacking.
One-In-All: Using the horizontal width of your hand, you can have a ring at the base of all your fingers except your thumb, and if you want, you can add two midi rings just to give your fingers an elongated look.
All-in-one: by selecting one finger, you can stack up to 4 rings that go together; just make sure that the heaviest and widest ring goes at the base of your finger and the lightest and narrowest ring goes at the top, to compliment your finger and adds symmetrical beauty to the stack, this stacking order is called the triangular stack.
More is more:
If you love to show off your rings and want to make a statement with them then more is simply more, but always remember to keep it balanced between your hands and if you are using one or more chunky pieces, pair them with stacking rings that are dainty and simple.
If you are using gemstone rings, choose one color or one type of gemstone so that the collection of rings is tied together by color.
Avoid stacking chunky rings on your finger; it won’t only look clunky but might hinder your finger movement defeating the purpose.
Pick rings based on who you are:
When purchasing new rings, pick ones that truly express your personality and could be worn by themselves or stacked.
Go for size-free rings that can be tighter or wider to use at the base of your finger or at the top with no problem.
Try to pick some rings that look like two rings; this way, you’ll be stacking effortlessly.
Make sure to consider your clothes and other accessories, and base your ring selection on them or vice versa to make sure that your entire look is cohesive and elegant.
Throw away the rulebook and just do what you want. Who cares what the style guides say? It’s your hand and your rings, so make your own rules and stack your rings the way you please.
