Five mistakes to avoid when purchasing jewelry as a gift

We’ve all been there on the receiving end of a ring that doesn’t quite fit or a necklace that’s too short, or a chunky bracelet that we will never wear.

These days are long gone; Love Spells was established in Egypt to bring forth gold and silver jewelry pieces that are elegant, unique, and versatile, so you can pick and choose your gift with confidence.

This article discusses five mistakes you need to avoid when purchasing jewelry as a gift for your loved one or friends.

    1. Purchasing a gift that doesn’t suit the recipient’s style

A gift is for someone other than you, which means it’s a gift bought with them in mind!

    Consider their personality and style:

If you want your gift to soar instead of drop, think about the person you are gifting. Do they have an out-of-the-box personality, or is it more reserved? Is their style minimal or extravagant? What colors do they prefer, what colors do they usually wear. What’s their general clothing style; casual or smart chic or formal?

    Consider their age:

Age is an important factor when gifting jewelry; what you might get a 20-year-old is different from what you might get a 30-year-old. Try to choose pieces that are suitable for their age.

    Consider their skin tone:

Yellow gold, rose gold and silver look good on white to neutral skin tones.

Yellow gold and rose gold look good on tan to dark skin tones.

Silver that’s a bit rustic and dark also looks good on tan to dark skin tones, but the shiny silver might not look as good.

So, always consider their skin tone and the color of jewelry they usually wear in their daily lives.

    2. Guessing the wrong size and length

If you have to guess, then you are probably erring on the side of buying the wrong size or length. Luckily for you, there are things you can do to avoid that.

For rings: you have three options, either get your hands on of their old rings, which they wear on the same finger you want to purchase the ring for and trace the ring on a paper to know the size, or you can ask one of their friends for their size, or you can get a size-free ring which is versatile and can be worn by itself or stacked!

For necklaces: you have two options; you can either choose a long adjustable chain or choose a medium-length necklace. These two will always be good length-wise. If you know that they like short necklaces or chokers, you can purchase necklaces of those lengths. Otherwise, steer clear of them, especially if the person you are buying the necklace for is a veiled woman, as the veil will cover the short necklace.

For bracelets: avoid hoop-shaped ones because those might be too wide or too tight for someone’s wrist, and they’ll end up collecting dust in their jewelry box. Go with adjustable ones or have a chain style; so they can adjust the wideness of the bracelet according to their preference

For earrings: first, you have to make sure that their ears are pierced, and if they are, then you pick an earring similar to the style of the ones they wear; you don’t want to be buying dangly earrings when they prefer to wear hoops or small earrings.

    3. Buying from an untrusted source

If you are planning to buy solid gold or silver jewelry pieces, you need to ensure that the store you are buying from is reputable and sources ethical metals and gems. The last thing you want is splurging on something fake!

You also need to have the receipt with your purchase; this is a red flag if the store doesn’t give receipts. However, if they provide a purchase receipt, then hold on to it as a safety net if the person you are gifting wants to replace the gift or wishes to resize it or customize it with engravings.

    4. Going over or under budget

Let’s get one thing clear here; a costly wrong gift is still a wrong gift, no matter how expensive it is, the only thing that would stand out is how wrong it is because you didn’t consider the person and their personality. Also, a cheap wrong gift is still a wrong one, showing how little you care.

So money doesn’t matter; personalization does. Your gift needs to hit the nail on its head, and you don’t need much money to do that. If your budget is tight, consider purchasing gold or silver jewelry; they have the same look as pure gold or silver and come at affordable prices.

    5. Right gift, wrong occasion

Birthdays and anniversaries are when you need to bring your A-game. Other occasions like Valentine’s are when you can have fun with jewelry.

So jewelry pieces that have a meaning, or you are planning on engraving messages on them, or if they are a bit splurgy, these are the ones to purchase on birthdays and anniversaries.

Other jewelry pieces that are personalized but could be worn casually are the ones to buy for Valentine’s and such occasions.
